I noticed that the calf plugins work but without UI. While trying to investigate, I found this issue: https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/calf/-/issues/3 Does this only affect Arch Linux because it is removing GTK2, or could it be a more general problem?
Well spotted. Thank you. In populating my DAW under Ubuntu 24.04, I have sadly found it necessary to uninstall and remove all CALF plugins. They were causing my somewhat new system to crash all the time. A great pity as they've been tremendous for a long while. On Tue, 2025-11-11 at 09:31 +0000, Andrea paz wrote:

Adam, if you want to still use the Calf plugins, you can try to use them without the UI interface and hopefully that avoids the crashes. Use the CinGG pulldown Settings->Preference->Interface tab, Operations section and uncheck "Auto start lv2 gui" On Tue, Nov 11, 2025 at 10:01 AM adam <ahcnz@orcon.net.nz> wrote:

That's a good tip. Thank you. As I'll look at Calf again, in the near future. I can recommend Linux Studio Plugins, at least for DAWs on recent distros. They seem robust https://lsp-plug.in/ https://lsp-plug.in/?page=manuals Thank you again. A. On Tue, 2025-11-11 at 11:04 -0700, Phyllis Smith wrote:

*I think* for Arch gtk2 still in AUR, but you probably want to tweak calf plugin build script to enable its gtk2 part? https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gtk2 _______________________________________________

I don't really understand Arch's situation. GTK2 is no longer in the official repositories, but I think it's still on my system. I tried to install the gtk2-compat wrapper, but I can't because it conflicts with GTK2. But if it's still on my system, why doesn't the Calf UI work? @Adam, the LSP plugins look great to me. Do you think it would be possible to use them in Cin-GG? And maybe even the vst3s...

LSP plugins (at least version from year 2023 ..) appear to work fine as-is (if you get lv2 version) in current cin-gg compiled with lv2 support, including UI. I think author put a lot of care into making UI with Cairo directly, so it should be unaffected by gtk2 removals. I think some tools (CLARA 2.0 host?) can even convert some VST plugins to lv2? https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=19424 But I never used such functionality myself ... _______________________________________________
