While HDV and FHD video can rendered for Blu-ray media, the widespread
DVD can only playback SD video content.
HDV camcorders can during tape playback 1440x1080 anamorphic HDV
content, downconvert it to Widescreen Anamorphic 16:9 video.
Is it possible to get a Preset for DV(D) wide 16:9 video?

------------------
MPEG-2 DVD-Video (Application)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-2#DVD-Video
16:9 is the only widescreen aspect ratio natively supported by the DVD
format. Anamorphic DVD transfers store the information as 5:4 (PAL) or
3:2 (NTSC) square pixels, which is set to expand to either 16:9 or 4:3,
which the television or video player handles. For example, a PAL DVD
with a full frame image may contain a video resolution of 720×576 (5:4
ratio), but a video player software will stretch this to 1024×576 square
pixels with a 16:9 flag in order to recreate the correct aspect ratio.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16:9
-------
DVD Video - Widescreen Anamorphic 16:9 16x9
A DVD labeled as "Widescreen Anamorphic" contains video that has the
same frame size in pixels as traditional fullscreen video, but uses
wider pixels. The shape of the pixels is called pixel aspect ratio and
is encoded in the video stream for a DVD player to correctly identify
the proportions of the video. If an anamorphic DVD video is played on
standard 4:3 television without adjustment, the image will look
horizontally squeezed.
Although currently there is no labeling standard, DVDs with content
originally produced in an aspect ratio wider than 1.33:1 are typically
labeled "Anamorphic Widescreen," "Enhanced for 16:9 televisions,"
"Enhanced for widescreen televisions," or similar. If not so labeled,
the DVD is intended for a 4:3 display ("fullscreen"), and will be
letterboxed or panned and scanned.

I tried to put DNxHR presets under the .mov container. The advantages
of using this mezzanine codec are great quality and efficiency (like
ProRes) and being self-managed for each resolution and bit-rate
(unlike DNxHD which has many fixed and unalterable formats for each
resolution). The only disadvantage compared to DNxHD is that it
supports only progressive and not interlaced signals.
If someone wants to try them, I make them available (there are also 2
audio presets of type pcm). They seem to work apart from some
settings:
- Pixel_format gbrp10le of pulldown ("pixels:") does not work (it
remains yuv type).
- in pixel_format pulldown there is no choice for bit-depth=12; while
DNxHR_HQX and DNxHR_444 profiles should be 12-bit (for resolutions
higher than FullHD). Is this a limit of CinGG?
- pix_fmt=rgb24 does not work.
Since I can't find any official documentation, if you have any advice
please say so.
I based on these articles:
https://dovidenko.com/2019/999/ffmpeg-dnxhd-dnxhr-mxf-proxies-and-optimized…

Upd2: I tried to run CinGG under valgrind, on application restart...

Sigh, upgrading valgrind itself to 3.16.1 fixed those ....
Now, I have some crash at lv2 plugin scan under valgrind, but this may be also false positive:

Тема: Upd: I tried to run CinGG under valgrind, on application restart...
Дата: Вторник 03 ноября 2020

Also tried to remove one (video) track from (1+2) default project.
Then undo with 'z'

First I moved away ~/.bcast5 (under root user), and ten lauched CinGG
After it started I tried to chnage vicon quality from low->high in Preferences. After this I just clicked OK, so restart was initiated.
Program come up OK, but Valgrind complained.
Got some output:
valgrind /usr/bin/cin

Also tried to remove one (video) track from (1+2) default project.
Then undo with 'z'

Тема: I tried to run CinGG under valgrind, on application restart...

==16779== Command: /usr/bin/cin

So they use cin_pix_fmt (autoselecting pixel format)

Just added cin_quality=1 to mp4.qt,mjpeg.qt, new profile mjpeg.avi and old flv.
Files are much bigger, sure, but at least this doesn't show horrible blocking artefacts by default ....
Writing interlaced avi still doesn't work :( even if ffmpeg support making such avi:
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/6383
I also modified my patch to mimic that ffmpeg does more closely:
ffmpeg:
if (ost->top_field_first == 0) {
enc_ctx->field_order = AV_FIELD_BB;
} else if (ost->top_field_first == 1) {
enc_ctx->field_order = AV_FIELD_TT;
}
if (frame) {
if (enc_ctx->flags & (AV_CODEC_FLAG_INTERLACED_DCT | AV_CODEC_FLAG_INTERLACED_ME) &&
ost->top_field_first >= 0)
frame->top_field_first = !!ost->top_field_first;
if (frame->interlaced_frame) {
if (enc_ctx->codec->id == AV_CODEC_ID_MJPEG)
enc_ctx->field_order = frame->top_field_first ? AV_FIELD_TT:AV_FIELD_BB;
else
enc_ctx->field_order = frame->top_field_first ? AV_FIELD_TB:AV_FIELD_BT;
} else
enc_ctx->field_order = AV_FIELD_PROGRESSIVE;
}

Still not sure about interlaced mpeg2/mpeg4 - field order might be wrong ....
I'll try to rework this section of patch one more time :(

Recently I succeeded in adapting CinelerraGG manual in such a way that HTML
manual can be produced in addition to the usual PDF manual from the same
sources at once.
The translation is made with the latex2html translator. Actually, it was
much more work to extend latex2html so that it could accept some
constructions of the manual (most important, lstlisting), than to adapt the
manual itself.
The details, how to patch latex2html and how to translate the manual, I
documented on Bugtracker as BT538.
You can see how the result can look like, here:
http://nmr.nioch.nsc.ru/CinelerraGG_Manual/
or download the whole archived manual (~50Mb) to browse locally:
http://nmr.nioch.nsc.ru/CinelerraGG_Manual/CinelerraGG_Manual.tar.gz
Phyllis, Andrea, can we need something like this?

This topic is treated with reference to the current Cinelerra-GG Manual
(and in the Features5 document at least since early 2018):
* 14.6 HDV on a Blu-ray Disc Without Re-encoding
An MTS file is a video file saved in the high-definition (HD) MPEG
Transport Stream video format, commonly called AVCHD. It contains HD
video compatible with Blu-ray disc format and is based on the MPEG-2
transport stream. MTS files are often used by Sony, Panasonic, Canon
and other HD camcorders. Legal in-
put for Video – MPEG1VIDEO, MPEG2VIDEO, H264; Audio – MP1, MP2, AC3,
AC3PLUS, DTS, TRUHD.
For creating a blu-ray disc, if you have HDV MPEG-2 media that is in
blu-ray format, you can save the original quality of your work,
rather than rendering it to another format. Follow the steps below
directly instead of going through C INELERRA-GG. It has been tested
on 10 different MTS files.
du -sb /yourHDVfile.MTS # Determine the size of your file in bytes.
blocks=((size-in-bytes/2048 + 4096)) # Convert bytes into blocks
+ a little more.
mkudffs /tmp/newfilename.udfs blocks # Create a file with that #
of blocks + some extra.
mount -o loop /tmp/newfilename.udfs /mntX # Use a mount point
like mntX that is not in use.
/<cinelerra_installed_path>/bin/bdwrite /mntX /tmp/yourHDVfile.MTS
# Substitute cinelerra path.
umount /mntX # You must unmount the udfs filesystem
growisofs -Z /dev/bd=/tmp/newfilename.udfs # Replace /dev/bd
with your bluray hardware device.
OR dd if=/tmp/newfilename.udfs of=/dev/bd bs=2048000 # if using
rewritable blu-ray; replace bd.
===================
When the 1080i/25 HDV-source is recorded via i.Link (Firewire) to disk,
the file type and format is HDV.M2T
For this test I use the same, downloaded HDV file as previous mentioned
(not my file or camcorded by me!)

The default AC3 bitrate 192 kb/s here is halph of the source MP2 bitrate
384 kb/s. Any idea about the quality difference?
================
So further to trouble using the procedure steps from the Manual above:
Determine the size of the file in bytes.
du -sb 20081103140154.m2ts
46642368 20081103140154.m2ts
Try to calculate the blocks as
blocks=((/466423682048 + 4096)) = 26870.59375 ??
# mkudffs /tmp/bd_20201122_hdv_m2ts.udfs blocks 26870.59375
mkudffs: invalid block-count
Obviously something went wrong here.
Could someone test and verify these steps and further, to see if a
successful Blu-ray BDAV structure is created?
(Just now I have no Blu-ray burner in my working PC, so I have to wait
with burning the image to a BD-R/RE discs).

It seems with ffmpeg-4.3 only highest (120Mb) profile worked for 1440x1080i/25
stream I got from Terje's m2t file ....
I added all those profiles behind #, I hope it will be workable in some scenarios.
Hm, so those tables from ffmpeg-2.8 and ffmpeg-4.3 differ ....

so, 120M should be working for 1080p/1080i/720p and pixel format: yuv422p
